Samsung Galaxy S25 FE Review: Full Specs, Release Date, Price, and the Fan Edition That Finally Grew Up

Last updated: October 2026 · Category: Phone Reviews · 14 min read

I used the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE (8 GB / 128 GB, Navy) as my daily driver for three weeks. It ran Android 16 with One UI 8, updated through the September 2026 security patch. Benchmark data sourced from Android Authority, Notebookcheck, and Digit’s standardized testing. Battery tests ran at 200 nits, 50% volume, Wi-Fi on.

⭐ Our Rating8.0 / 10 — The right phone for the right price

The Fan Edition has always been the smart person’s Samsung. The S20 FE was a genuine flagship killer. Then the S21 FE was fine. The S22 FE never existed. The S23 FE was… acceptable. The S24 FE was a spec-sheet exercise.

So when Samsung announced the S25 FE, I wasn’t expecting much. Same design. Same cameras. Probably the same compromises.

I was half right.

The design is nearly identical to the S24 FE. The cameras are the same hardware. But Samsung finally fixed the two things that mattered most: the battery and the charging speed. The S25 FE has a 4,900 mAh cell and 45 W charging — both firsts for the FE line.

That changes the math. At $649, this is a phone that does 95% of what the Galaxy S25 does for $150 less. And with seven years of updates, it’s a phone you can actually keep.

But there’s a catch. The Exynos 2400 gets hot. The battery life is inconsistent. And the camera, while good, isn’t the best in its class.

Here’s what actually matters.

⚡ Quick Verdict — 30 Second Summary

👍 What I Liked

  • 4,900 mAh battery with 45 W charging — a real upgrade
  • 6.7″ AMOLED at 120 Hz with 1,900 nits peak
  • 7 years of OS and security updates
  • Slimmer and lighter than the S24 FE (190 g)
  • IP68 water and dust resistance
  • Full Galaxy AI suite
  • Wireless charging (15 W) and reverse wireless charging
  • Triple camera with 3x optical zoom

👎 What I Didn’t

  • Exynos 2400 throttles under sustained load
  • Gets hot — up to 50°C in stress tests
  • Battery life is inconsistent (some tests show 16h, others 13h)
  • LTPS panel, not LTPO — no 1 Hz idle
  • 8 GB RAM / 128 GB base storage feels stingy
  • No Wi-Fi 7, no UWB
  • PWM dimming at 240 Hz — can cause eye strain
  • Bloatware (Spotify, Netflix, Microsoft apps)

📅 Release Date & Price

Samsung announced the Galaxy S25 FE on September 4, 2025, and it went on sale later that month.

RegionConfigurationPrice
United States8 GB / 128 GB$649.99
United States8 GB / 256 GB$749.99
India8 GB / 256 GB₹50,999

By October 2026, prices have dropped significantly. Amazon lists the 128 GB model for $549, and some retailers have pushed it below $500. Smartprix has tracked it as low as $399 during flash sales.

At $649, the S25 FE was a good phone with a fair price. At $499, it’s a genuinely great deal.

🎨 Design & Display

The S25 FE looks almost identical to the S24 FE. Same flat frame. Same individual camera cutouts. Same rounded corners. If you put them side by side, you’d need a ruler to tell the difference.

But there are meaningful changes. The S25 FE is 23 grams lighter (190 g vs 213 g) and slightly thinner. You feel that difference in your hand, especially during long one-handed sessions. Android Authority noted that the slimmer design “definitely grew on me.”

The build is excellent. Armor Aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both sides, IP68 water resistance. PCMag noted a “slight lip where the matte back panel meets the frame,” but it’s a minor quibble on an otherwise premium-feeling phone.

The display is bright, but not the best

The 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel hits 1,900 nits of peak brightness. Digit’s testing measured 1,950 nits, which is excellent for outdoor visibility. I used it in direct sunlight without any trouble.

Color accuracy is superb. Digit measured an average DeltaE of 1.5 and 99.7% gamut coverage — numbers that rival professional monitors.

But there’s a catch: it’s an LTPS panel, not LTPO. That means it can’t drop down to 1 Hz for static content. Android Authority confirmed the screen generally drops to 60 Hz, occasionally 30 Hz, but never lower. It’s a minor battery trade-off, but worth knowing.

LTPS vs. LTPO — What’s the Difference?

LTPO panels can dynamically adjust their refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz, saving battery when you’re reading static text. LTPS panels can only switch between a few preset rates (60 Hz, 120 Hz). The S25 FE uses LTPS, which means it’s slightly less efficient than the S25’s LTPO panel. In practice, the difference is small — maybe 5-10% of battery life.

🚀 Performance

The Exynos 2400 is a capable chip. It’s the same chip that powered the Galaxy S24 series in some regions, and it’s a step up from the Exynos 2400e in the S24 FE.

In benchmarks, it holds its own. Digit measured 1,902,139 on AnTuTu, 2,193 single-core / 7,093 multi-core on Geekbench 6, and 13,856 on PCMark Work 3.0. Those aren’t Snapdragon numbers, but they’re respectable for a $649 phone.

BenchmarkGalaxy S25 FE (Exynos 2400)Galaxy S25 (Snapdragon 8 Elite)
AnTuTu 10~1,902,139~2,500,000
Geekbench 6 — Single-core2,193~2,900
Geekbench 6 — Multi-core7,093~9,200

Benchmark data sourced from Digit and Gadgets360’s standardized testing. The Snapdragon 8 Elite in the Galaxy S25 is meaningfully faster, but in daily use the gap is less noticeable.

In daily use, the phone feels smooth. Apps open quickly. Multitasking with 8 GB of RAM is fine for most people. Gaming is where the Exynos 2400 shows its limits — Genshin Impact runs at 60 fps on Medium, but it struggles on High. PUBG Mobile holds 60 fps on High, but it gets warm.

And that’s the issue: heat. Digit’s stress test recorded temperatures approaching 50°C. Notebookcheck flagged “high excess heat” as a con. The vapor chamber is 13% larger than the S24 FE’s, but it’s still not enough to keep the Exynos 2400 cool under sustained load.

⚠️ Thermal throttling is real. GameGPU found that graphics performance drops to 59–66% of peak under stress, worse than the S24 FE’s 71–72%. If you game heavily, this isn’t the phone for you.

📷 Camera

The S25 FE has the same camera hardware as the S24 FE: a 50 MP main sensor, a 12 MP ultrawide, and an 8 MP 3x telephoto. That’s not a bad thing — it’s a proven setup — but it’s not an upgrade.

The main camera is the star. In daylight, it produces sharp, detailed photos with Samsung’s characteristic warm color science. OIS helps in low light, and Night mode is decent. TechAdvisor praised the “strong main and selfie cameras.”

The 3x telephoto is useful for portraits and the occasional zoom, but it’s not as versatile as the 5x periscope on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The 12 MP ultrawide is fine in good light, but it struggles indoors and at night.

DxOMark gave the S25 FE a score of 118 — beaten by the Google Pixel 6a, a phone that’s three years old. That’s a harsh verdict, but it reflects the reality: the camera is good, not great.

ConditionResult
Bright daylightVery good — sharp, natural color, good dynamic range
Overcast / shadeGood — holds detail reasonably well
Indoor lightingAcceptable — noise reduction softens texture
Low light / nightDecent — Night mode helps, but it’s not class-leading
3x telephotoGood — sharp in daylight, softer in low light
Selfie (12 MP)Very good in daylight, good indoors
Video8K @ 30 fps, 4K @ 60 fps — good stabilization

The AI features are where the S25 FE shines. Audio Eraser removes background noise from videos. Best Face lets you swap expressions in group photos. Now Brief gives you morning/afternoon/evening summaries. Some of it is gimmicky. Some of it is genuinely useful.

🔋 Battery & Charging

This is where the S25 FE makes its biggest improvement over the S24 FE.

The battery jumped from 4,700 mAh to 4,900 mAh. Charging jumped from 25 W to 45 W. Those are meaningful upgrades — the first time Samsung has increased either spec in the FE line since the S20 FE.

In Digit’s PCMark Battery Life test, the S25 FE managed 16 hours and 38 minutes. That’s a solid result — over a day and a half of moderate use. Android Authority got just over 8 hours of screen-on time in everyday use.

But Notebookcheck’s testing was less generous, calling it “the weakest battery life within the Galaxy S25 series.” CNET found that after 4 hours of screen use, the battery dropped to about 30%. That’s not great.

TestResult
PCMark Battery Life (Digit)16h 38min
Screen-on time (Android Authority)~8 hours
4-hour screen use (CNET)~30% remaining
Full charge time (45 W)~68 minutes
0–69% charge (30 min, CNET)~30 minutes
Wireless charging15 W (Qi2-ready with case)

Battery results sourced from Digit, Android Authority, Notebookcheck, and CNET’s standardized testing. The discrepancy between tests suggests the Exynos 2400’s efficiency varies significantly depending on workload.

Charging is much faster than before. 45 W wired gets you from 0 to 100% in about 68 minutes. CNET measured 0–69% in 30 minutes. That’s a big improvement over the S24 FE’s 25 W charging, which took 75 minutes to full.

Wireless charging is 15 W, and the phone is “Qi2-Ready” — meaning it supports magnetic accessories if you use a compatible case. There’s also reverse wireless charging for earbuds or a watch.

No charger in the box. Budget another $20 for a 45 W USB-C PD PPS charger.

🤖 Software & Updates

This is the S25 FE’s strongest selling point.

Samsung promises seven years of OS upgrades and seven years of security patches. That matches Google’s Pixel policy and beats almost every other Android manufacturer. If you buy this phone today, it’ll get Android 23 in 2032.

The phone ships with Android 16 and One UI 8. The interface is clean, fast, and packed with features. Galaxy AI is fully integrated — Audio Eraser, Best Face, Now Brief, Now Bar, Circle to Search, Writing Assist, and more.

But there’s bloatware. Android Authority noted that the phone comes with pre-installed Spotify, Netflix, and Microsoft apps. You can uninstall them, but it takes a few minutes.

The update commitment alone makes the S25 FE a better long-term investment than almost any other phone in its price range. If you keep phones for 3+ years, it’s a compelling reason to buy.

Final Thoughts

The Galaxy S25 FE isn’t trying to be the best phone on the market. It’s trying to be the right phone for the right price. And at $549 or less, it succeeds.

The display is bright and accurate. The charging is finally fast. The update commitment is unmatched. And the Galaxy AI features are genuinely useful, not just marketing fluff.

But the Exynos 2400 runs hot. The battery life is inconsistent. And the camera, while good, isn’t the best in its class. If you’re a heavy gamer or a serious photographer, this isn’t the phone for you.

For everyone else — people who want a reliable phone with long-term support, a great screen, and fast charging — the S25 FE is the smart choice. It’s not flashy. It’s just good.

Buy it if: you want 7 years of updates, a bright display, and fast charging for under $650.
Skip it if: you game heavily, need consistent battery life, or want the best camera.
